about the VP of finance role:

the VP of finance role is a critical executive leader that shapes the strategy underpinning our growth as a business. from unit economics to financial projections, this role works directly with all of leadership at soona to ensure that we have the plans and resources to execute on our vision. an ideal candidate is excited to move quickly from investor relations to financial forecasting to working with our internal team to close the books. this role reports directly to the CEO and manages a team consisting of a staff accountant and sr. accountant.

this is a full-time hybrid position located in denver or minneapolis. we believe a hybrid work environment allows our crew to have a balance of productive and innovative work spaces. occasionally coming into the office allows for collaboration and offers opportunity to bring out your inner creative! this role will come into the office tuesdays for collaboration day and a second day that’s up to you and your team.

an ideal candidate can:

• develop a vision and lead the long term and short term strategy and design of all financial and accounting planning processes including budgeting, forecasts, departmental and initiative goal setting and KPIs
• manage and develop a strong accounting team through soona’s core management principles
• ensure financial compliance and accounting principles through all local, state and federal regulations
• develop and implement internal controls to safeguard financial integrity and company assets
• proactively identifies potential financial risks through frequent analysis and risk assessment
• oversee and advise the CEO with all board and investor relations including but not limited to fundraising, engagement and negotiation
• collaborates with and supports executive leadership and board on key financial metrics for the business
• collaborate with the data team to provide insights that drive investment decisions in the business
• collaborates with the people team on stock grants, payroll, benefits and employee compensation
• lead and advise on strategic opportunities, including M&A, pricing and financing
• develop process and operations to seamlessly engage accounting and finance
• partner across the leadership team on all aspects of the finance department
• collaborate with the directors on budgeting and budget management
• oversee the team on all payroll, billings and general accounting ensuring we run on GAAP

has experience in:

• CPA preferred but not required
• venture backed fundraising, investor relations and deal structuring
• mergers and acquisitions
• data and report analysis
• managing other finance teammates
• masterful using excel on Google Sheets
• be familiar with ecommerce tax compliance
• be comfortable coordinating creative and tech teams
• presenting complex information simply
• have a degree in a relevant field
